Optimism amongst small businesses rose from July to August according to the results of the US Small Business Health Index (SBHI).  The SBHI score is generated monthly.  A higher score indicates a healthier small business environment in the U.S.  A score of 90 is really where we want to be.  We’re heading in the right direction after several months of regressing.

The SBHI follows a sampling of all active small businesses with fewer than 100 employees and there are seven components which are:

  1. Proprietor’s Income
  2. Revenue
  3. Employment
  4. Lending To Small Business
  5. New Business Creation
  6. Bankruptcies
  7. Future Confidence

Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) offers some really great data visualizations (built in Tableau) that are useful to small business owners. Definitely worth your time to bookmark the D&B site  and check the results out each month.
